Shark Tank
Shark Tank Program Final 5
8th Graders in Information and Media Literacy classes at Community Consolidated School District 93's Jay Stream and Stratford Middle Schools have a unique opportunity to create and market a product to peers and real life entrepreneurs during their Shark Tank Project.
Students collaborate in small groups to come up with a useful invention or product, create a physical version of the invention and finally market it to classmates with posters and commericals made from the learning tools available on their District-issued laptops.
Students are asked to seek feedback from classmates and school staff members on what improvements could be made then have the opportunity to implement those improvements.
New this year is the addition of Lizzie Bertness, Design Engineer, Prince Castle acting in the capacity as Consultant to the students. She will be working with the students on 3 different occasions; sharing how to start the process of working on a Shark Tank project, consulting with students to help them determine possibiltiies and finally listening to their pitches and providing feedback.
Winning projects are chosen by the students within each IML class.
For the culmination of the Shark Tank each class's winning group from both schools will present their product to local business leaders; Steve Romanelli, CEO, Core Pipe Produce and Steven Shei, VP, Innovation and Strategy, Prince Castle.
Both business leader "Sharks" will receive product pitches, ask questions and determine which group will receive the most "investment funding".
This year's event is a partnership between the School District, Carol Stream Chamber of Commerce, Core Pipe Product and Prince Castle.
